Can You Live in Your Home During Repairs?
It sounds like there might be a problem with the foundation of your house… You may have just started learning about foundation repair, or you may have already had a Foundation Inspection Bel Air 90077 performed and are currently waiting for the repairs to begin. Either way, it’s possible that you’re in one of two stages. The important question is whether or not you will be able to remain in your home while foundation repairs are being made.
The response to that inquiry will almost always be “Yes” in the overwhelming majority of instances.
However, what exactly are the alterations that are going to be made? Will there be no danger? Is it going to be loud? Will we be working inside your home? In the remaining portions of this article, let’s discuss not only these questions but also others!
Is It Safe To Remain In Your Home While Foundation Repairs Are Being Done?
The subject of safety is always the primary concern for both us and homeowners. We are concerned about the well-being of all parties involved in the foundation repair project, including the members of our team as well as you and your family. We will never put anyone’s safety in jeopardy, and you shouldn’t either!
We have mentioned that homeowners are able to remain in their homes during the completion of the vast majority of projects; however, what about the homeowners who are NOT able to remain in their homes during the completion of foundation repairs?
When Can You Not Live in Your Home While Foundation Repairs Are Being Done?
We’ve found over the years that the only time homeowners need to move out for a foundation repair project is when we’re replacing an entire slab foundation. This is the only circumstance in which this is necessary.
This type of project will involve breaking out and demolishing the entire slab, which is not only a messy process but will also remove any semblance of a floor from the house. In addition to the fact that we do not want homeowners to walk around in the dirt, doing so would not be safe in any case.
Maintaining Your Normal Lifestyle During Foundation Repairs to Your Home
Now that we’ve discussed the situations in which homeowners CAN NOT stay in their homes during a project, let’s discuss the experience of homeowners who are able to stay in their home during a foundation repair project and how it looks and feels for those homeowners.
Piers are utilized in the majority of our foundation repair work in order to stabilize and, in some cases, lift the base of a house. These piers will either be push piers or helical piers, both of which are made out of galvanized steel and are hydraulically driven down to competent, load-bearing strata. In both cases, the piers will be driven down to the desired depth (aka soils that can adequately support the structure.)
These push piers or helical piers will be installed adjacent to the footing of the house all the way around the affected area’s perimeter. This indicates that the crews will be digging and excavating holes on the exterior of the home all the way down to the bottom of the footing.
During the course of foundation repair projects, are homeowners permitted to vacate their homes?
You are NOT required to leave your house for the duration of the project; however, the time has come for you to decide whether or not you still intend to do so. The homeowners are in no way required to be present while repairs are being made.
If there is a lifting component to the project, we would strongly advise the homeowner to be present on the day that the lifting is taking place.
Although the majority of homeowners choose to tough it out and remain in their homes throughout the duration of their project, the decision is ultimately up to you.
