An earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale struck the Ridgecrest area on July 4th, 2019. In a recent story published in the Los Angeles Times, it was said that “statistically speaking, just 5% of earthquakes are followed up by something worse.” The region was ravaged by a magnitude 7.1 earthquake just one day after a magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck nearby, not too far from the epicenter of the earlier quake. Although it may not appear to be a significantly larger earthquake, it is actually almost 11 times stronger than the one that occurred before! Since then, Southern California has been hit by thousands upon thousands of aftershocks as a result of the earthquake.
